Route 160--River Road
Antioch, CA
Antioch, founded in 1849, is located at the juncture of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers. Antioch is a melting pot for marine activities. The city boasts marinas, boatyards, several yacht clubs, and many launches and overlooks from which the traveler can enjoy the rivers. There is a public fishing pier in town, and another out near the Antioch Bridge.
Antioch, in addition to offering most anything the traveler needs,
is host to a variety of enriching activities. The city has an
annual Rivertown Jamboree, an unforgettable lighted boat Christmas
Parade, and July 4th fireworks. Antioch, in times past, was a
significant asparagus canning-town. Likewise, coal was mined in the
hills behind the city and brought down to Antioch's wharfs by
locomotives.
