Route 160--River Road
Rio Vista, CA
Rio Vista is one of the most scenic towns along Route 160. The
river town is located on the west bank of the Sacramento River,
below Cache Slough. No levees sit in front of Rio Vista, providing
for an inspiring view of the river, with the Montezuma Hills as a
backdrop. The Rio Vista Bridge, with its beautiful twin towers,
only adds to the esthetic pleasure afforded the traveler at Rio
Vista.
Many believe the area surrounding Rio Vista to contain the best
fishing in the Delta. The town has many bait shops, and great
access to the River. The big event of the year is the three-day Rio
Vista Bass Festival, held annually in early October. Rio Vista is
also known for its excellent windsurfing.
Rio Vista, founded in 1857, was originally located upstream near
Cache Slough. That original town was eventually destroyed by
floods, and then moved and rebuilt further south, in its current
location. Rio Vista has shops, restaurants, and most anything else
the traveler might need.
