Blue Ridge Parkway - Virginia
Otter Creek, VA
Otter Creek features a visitor center and restaurant/shop. This is the lowest elevation (650 above sea level) of the parkway. Due to this, plant and animal communities are unlike any other found on other parkway areas. Trails help visitors experience scenic views of Otter Lake and James River water gap and Battery Creek Lock, a restored canal from the 1800s that helped make the river a major transportation corridor before the Civil War. Exhibits explain the use of the locks.
