Day 1

  • Start: Beckley

    Get a feel for the coal mining experience at this hands-on museum while you wander through the mines.

  • Stop 1: Twin Falls State Park

    From previous stop: 48 minutes / 24.91 mi (39.9 km)
    Directions:

    Start out going northwest on WV-210 toward E. Prince St, after 0.1 miles turn left onto W. Prince Street. After .3 miles turn left onto WV-16 S and continue to follow the road for 3 miles.

    Make a slight right onto Old WV-54 and drive for 2.9 miles until making a left to stay on the road. Turn right onto WV-54, drive for 11.3 miles and then make another right onto WV-97.

    After 4.9 miles turn left to stay on WV-97; then turn left, then left again to end at Twin Falls State Park.

    Enjoy the majestic mountain views, modern resort facilities and a glimpse into the pioneer days of the 19th century at Twin Falls State Park.

  • Stop 2: Welch

    From previous stop: 49 minutes / 25.25 mi (40.4 km)
    Directions:

    Start out going south on CR-4 toward NF-801 for 0.1 miles before making a slight right onto NF-801. Road turns into CR-10 after.4 miles. After another .8 miles, turn right onto CR-4 and drive for 1.8 miles before making a left onto WV-97.

    After 3 miles, turn left onto WV-10, travel for .3 miles before taking another left. After .8 miles, turn right onto WV-16. Continue for 17.2 miles, then take another left onto WV-16.

    Travel for .5 miles, then turn left, left again or another .1 miles, then take another left for .1 miles. Take a final left turn onto Sudduth St. to end at Welch.
    Suggested time at this stop: 45 minutes

    Visit the city of Welch to take a look and explore the Welch County Courthouse, as well as a World War I memorial.

  • End: Bramwell

    From previous stop: 40 minutes / 25.68 mi (41.1 km)
    Directions:

    Start out going west on Sudduth St. toward Mercer St for .1 miles before making a left onto Mercer St. After another .1 miles, turn left onto US-52 Alt E and continue to follow the road for .1 miles.

    Make a slight right onto US-52 Alt for .1 miles then make another left onto US-52. Travel for .9 miles before making another left onto US-52. Continue on this road for 23.5 miles.

    Turn right onto Simmons Ave and after .8 miles, reach Bramwell.

    Visit the town of Bramwell, filled with historic buildings and was a millionaire town in the late 1800's.
