Tygart Valley Homesteads, WV
Tygart Valley Homesteads was established in 1933 as a New Deal resettlement community. Out of work "homesteaders" could purchase one of 198 homes, each with a garden, outbuildings and root cellar. The Homestead School, built for the community, is still in use and has a byway interpretive sign. The houses, workshops, sawmill, and school are along both sides of the turnpike and side streets in Dailey, and Valley Bend. One of the administration buildings is now a restaurant.
