Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike
Beverly Historic District, WV

Beverly was founded in 1790 as the original County Seat of Randolph County. This turnpike crossroads is significant for early settlement and as a Civil War strategic stronghold. Historic district rich in pre-Civil War buildings has interpretive signs and walking tour, byway visitor center in McClellan's Headquarters, Randolph County Museum, Lemuel Chenoweth house, and shops. The Beverly Heritage Center now being developed will expand the visitor center, its exhibits and services.
