Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike
Farnsworth House, WV

The Farnsworth House was the home of James Farnsworth, son of West Virginia's second governor. As with many early landowners, the Farnsworths had many endeavors. They farmed, built a tavern on the opposite side of the road that was used by travelers on the turnpike, and later a cattle weighing station for drovers taking animals to market. A turnpike toll house sits on the property. Around the house are farm fields and outbuildings, and across the road are the remnants of the tavern.
