Driving the Byway

This backway is located in eastern West Virginia. Turn onto the road at Cheat Mountain Club, cross the river at the site of the original Cheat Bridge, then take the switchbacks to the right on up the mountain to the Cheat Summit Fort. The turnpike route past the fort is now impassable, so the backway returns to the highway via the more direct Cheat Summit Fort road marked by signs.
