Seward Highway
Ptarmigan Creek Recreation Site, AK

Each year from late July through early August, thousands of red salmon can be seen in this creek heading upstream to spawn. An eagle nest is conveniently located, within view of the Highway, for easy access to this annual feast. But eagles are not the only ones drawn to this area for the spectacular salmon run, spruce forests, scenic vistas, or mountain goats and Dall sheep perched precariously on the rocky cliffs.
