Slowly make your way to Cleveland from Dover. As you travel you will discover historic towns and neighborhoods. You will learn at museums and explore three of our nation's Hall of Fames. Parks are scatted throughout the byway filled with natural treasures.

Day 1

  • Start: J.E. Reeves Victorian Home

    This magnificent 19th century farmhouse has been carefully restored to the splendor of the era and contains the original furnishings of the Reeves family. Visitors can walk through the house and see the artifacts.

  • Stop 1: Warthers Carvings Museum

    Directions from previous place:

    Go northwest on E. Iron Blvd. Turn left onto W. Front St. Immediately turn right onto N. Tuscarawas Ave. Turn left onto Karl Ave. and go until you reach the museum.

    The Warther Museum is a celebration of the unique, wood-carving craftsmanship of Ernest Warther. Visitors can examine the features in his original workshop: an extensive collection of his carvings, an 18th Century steel mill, and a history of steam locomotives and trains.

  • Stop 2: Zoar Village

    Directions from previous place:

    Go northeast on Karl Ave and turn left onto N. Tuscarawas Ave. From there merge onto I 77 going north. After about 10 miles take exit 93 toward Blovar/Zoar. Quickly turn right onto OH 212 and take a slight right onto Main St. Follow Main until you reach the Zoar Village.

    The community of Zoar was established in 1817 by a group of German immigrants who fled their native country seeking religious freedom. Walk though the village depicting 19th Century life.

  • Stop 3: Fort Laurens Memorial

    Directions from previous place:

    Go north on Main St. and take a slight left onto Wilkshire Blvd. After about 3 miles turn left onto Park Ave. SE, which will become Fort Laurens Rd. NW

    The eighty-acre site is home to a Revolutionary War museum containing period artifacts and the tomb of an unknown patriot who died in defense of Fort Laurens. Watch the periodic re-enactments of encampments and weapons demonstrations.

  • Stop 4: Lincoln Highway Train Station

    Directions from previous place:

    Go north on Forth Laurens Rd. NW until it becomes Park Ave. SE. Turn right onto N. Cary Dr. Merge onto I 77 and follow it for about 12 miles. Take the Tuscarawas St. exit 105 toward Downtown. Turn right onto W. Tuscarawas St. and follow this road until you get to the train station.

    The Lincoln Highway Train Station is a stop on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The railroad travels from Independence to Canton. Take an excursion conducted in authentic, 1940, climate-controlled coaches.

  • Stop 5: Pro Football Hall of Fame

    Directions from previous place:

    Go west Tuscarawas St. W. and merge onto I 77. Take the Fulton Rd/OH 687 exit (107A). Follow the road right, then turn right again onto Washington Blvd. NW. This road will become ParkDr. NW. Stay on this road until you get to George Halas Dr. NW and turn right onto it. Follow this road until you get to the Hall of Fame.

    The Hall presents films and memorabilia of professional football history. Access to the hall's research library is available by appointment.

  • Overnight Point: Navarre

    Directions from previous place:

    So south on I 77 toward Bolivar. Follow this road until you get to Fohl St. SW and turn right onto it. Follow Fohl St. SW until you get to Navarre.

    Navarre is a classic historic canal village. Visitors will find much to do and see at the village's many antique stores, shops, and restaurants.

  • Stop 1: Historic Fourth Street District

    Directions from previous place:

    Go east on Wooster St. NW and turn left onto Main St. Take the Erie St. ramp toward Oberlin Ave. Turn left to go back onto Erie St. Turn right onto Oak Ave. and then turn right again to get onto 4th St.

    This historic district is listed on the National Register by virtue of its architectural excellence and variety. Several homes served as stations on the Underground Railroad. The Five Oaks Historic Home is open for exportation to the public.

  • Stop 2: Massillon Museum

    Directions from previous place:

    Go southwest on 4th ST. SE. Turn right onto 3rd St. SE. Turn left onto Lincoln Way and follow it until you get to the Museum.

    This 1931 art deco building features contemporary art, local history, a sports gallery, three-ring Immel Circus display, and a photography gallery.

  • Stop 3: Ohio Society of Military History Museum

    Directions from previous place:

    Go east on Lincoln Way until you reach the Military History Museum.

    The museum features uniforms, photographs, letters and other documents, medals, and memorabilia from all periods of Ohio's military history. Many of the individual men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces are highlighted.

  • Stop 4: St. Helena III Canal Boat

    Directions from previous place:

    Go west on Lincoln Way until you reach Lillian Gish Blvd, turn left. Turn right onto OH 21 North and go about 7 miles. Take the OH 93 ramp toward Canal Fulton/Brewster. Turn right onto Manchester Ave. Take a slight right onto Cherry St. Turn left soon after onto Tuscarawas St. Follow this road until you reach the community park and the canal.

    Take a journey back in time aboard the St. Helena III Canal Boat on an original section of the Ohio & Erie Canal. The boat glides along in the water while a team of horses pull it on land.

  • Overnight Point: Anna Dean Park

    Directions from previous place:

    Go northwest on Erie Ave until you get to Clinton. In Clinton take 31st St. north until you reach Johnsons Corners. Turn right onto Wooster Rd. Follow this road to Barberton.

    A 1/2 mile trail winds through this 13-acre park, which was once part of C. Barber's Anna Dean Farm. Walk though the three buildings near the park being restored by the Barberton Historical Society.

  • Stop 1: Akron Art Museum

    Directions from previous place:

    Go west on W. Tuscarawas Ave. and follow it to go onto Wooster Rd. Merge onto I 76 and then onto OH 59 toward downtown. Turn right onto N. High St. and then quickly left onto E. Market St. Follow Market St. until you get to the museum.

    Regional, national, and international housing works date from 1850. Builds showcases pieces by Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, and Helen Frankenthaler. Outside, the Myers Sculpture Courtyard has a permanent, large-scale sculpture collection. Classes, art festivals, hands-on family exhibits, and summer outdoor concerts are all offered.

    Go west on E. Market St. Turn right onto N. Main St. which will become N. Howard St. Turn left onto W. North St. and follow it until you see the park on your right.

    Cascade Locks Park includes two historic canal-era buildings: the Mustill Store (a former general store) and House.The Towpath Trail follows a series of staircase locks that climb the summit into the city of Akron. This new park offers interpretive materials about the history of Akron.

  • Stop 3: National Inventors Hall of Fame

    Directions from previous place:

    Go east on W. North St. Turn right onto N. Howard St. and then left onto Martin Luther King JR Blvd. Turn right onto N. High St and then left onto E. State St. Turn left onto S. Broadway St. and go until you see the Hall of Fame.

    The National Inventors Hall of Fame brings inventions and their inventors to life. This unique downtown structure offers visitors a variety of hands-on adventures.

  • Overnight Point: Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens

    Directions from previous place:

    Go north on S. Broadway St. Turn left when you come to E. Market St. and go about 2 miles. Take a slight right onto N. Portage Path and follow it until you come to the Hall and Gardens.

    Built between 1911 and 1915 by Goodyear co-founder Frank Seiberling, Stan Jywet Hall is one of the finest examples of English Tudor Revival architecture in the United States. Visitors can tour the home as well as the surrounding gardens.

  • Stop 1: Hale Farm and Village

    Directions from previous place:

    Go north on N. Portage Path. Turn left when you get to Merriman Rd. This road will become Riverview Rd. Follow it for 3.5 miles and turn left onto Ira Rd. Turn right onto Oak Hill Rd. and follow the signs to the Farm.

    Hale Farm and Village lures the visitor with sights, sounds, and smells of a bustling Western Reserve township of 1848. Visit with artisans -- glass blowers, candlemakers, potters, and blacksmiths -- who demonstrate the industries of the mid-1800s.

  • Stop 2: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

    Directions from previous place:

    Go north on Brecksville Rd. for 1 mile, then merge onto I 480 W for a 1.5 miles. Merge onto Jennings Fwy toward Cleveland. Follow this road for 3.2 miles. Exit to Denison Ave and then turn left onto Pearl Rd. Take a slight right onto Wildlife Way and follow it until you get to the Zoo.

    One of the zoo's major attractions is the Rain Forest, which re-creates the Amazon in the heart of Northeast Ohio. Annual events include Boo-at-the-Zoo, Howl at the Moon, and an Earth Day Festival.

  • Stop 3: Mill Creek Falls

    Directions from previous place:

    Go east on Wildlife Way and take a slight right onto Pearl Rd. Turn right onto Denison Ave. Merge onto Jennings Fwy and follow it for 2 miles. Merge onto I 480 E and follow this road for 6.3 miles. Take the Broadway Ave. exit (23). Turn right onto Broadway Ave. and follow it until you get to the Falls.

    Settlers established Newburgh Township in 1799 on a former Native American trail. Water power provided by Mill Creek's 45-foot waterfall gave Newburgh a distinct advantage over Cleveland. Walk around the trails and lounge by the waterfall.

  • Stop 4: Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation

    Directions from previous place:

    Go northwest on Broadway Ave. and take a slight left to Harvard Ave. After 1.5 miles turn left onto E. 49th St. and follow it until you get to the reservation.

    The Ohio and Canal Reservation is the newest unit of Cleveland Metroparks, a 5.5 miles stretch of land that encompasses 320 acres from the backyards of six major industries. Visitors will experience a mix of industrial artifacts and natural meadows as they explore trails and exhibits that tell the stories of nature, industry, and immigration.

  • End: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

    Directions from previous place:

    Go north on E. 49th St. and turn right onto Harvard Ave. Merge onto I 77 going toward Cleveland. Get on E. 14th St. Turn left onto Prospect Ave. E. Turn right onto Rock and Roll Blvd and go until you reach the Hall of Fame.
