Wildlife Loop Road Scenic Byway

Near the junction of the Wildlife Loop Road and US 16A is the State Game Lodge and Coolidge Inn. Near the junction of the Wildlife Loop Road and SD 87 is Blue Bell Lodge and Resort. Both resort areas have food, lodging, gift shops, and gasoline available. Campgrounds are located near the resorts.

Special Considerations

There is a possibility of congestion, consisting of free roaming herds of buffalo crossing the road, or waiting for the begging burros to move aside.

Restrictions

The speed limit on the road is 35 mph. The route is open year round, and is designed for two lanes of traffic. The route is suitable for buses, motor coaches, motor homes, passenger cars, and other vehicles.

The Wildlife Loop Road is a paved, all-weather road and is open year-round.

High Season

The busiest time of year is the summer, however, only approximately 70,000 vehicles per year travel the route.
