Roughlock Falls Picnic Area and Hiking Trail, SD

A very short walk from the picnic area parking lot takes the visitor to beautiful Roughlock Falls. The name originated from the wagons and sleds that would travel down the steep grade from the falls, and if the wheels were not "rough locked" with the help of ropes and chains, an accident would often occur. From the falls, a one mile handicapped accessible trail winds its way down through birch and pine trees along Little Spearfish Creek to the lodge at Savoy.
