  • Appalachian Trail (ME)

    281 miles of this 14-state, nationally-known, cross-country trail happens to cross SR-201 and the Kennebec River at Caratunk.

    The trail is perpendicular to the byway and intersects it at Caratunk.

  • Dead River (ME)

    Dead River, contrary to its name, is one of the most important Maine rivers with respect to nature, scenery, and recreational opportunities.

    Location:

    Dead River crosses Old Canada Road, just south of The Forks.

  • Holeb Falls (ME)

    Holeb Falls has been federally recognized as an outstanding feature because of its scenic and natural attributes.

  • Kennebec River

    Kennebec River (ME)

    This river is ranked in the highest class of rivers with respect to its natural, scenic, and recreational qualities.

    Location:

    Kennebec River crosses Old Canada Road just south of The Forks, near Dead River.

  • Kennebec River Gorge (ME)

    Wild sections of the Kennebec River pass turbulently through a V-shaped 10 mile gorge, with a maximum depth of 80 yards.

    Access the Kennebec River Gorge via the Kennebec River using white-water rafts.

  • Moose River (ME)

    The lakes associated with the Moose River provide one of the most spectacular and popular river trips in Maine.

    Directions:

    From SR-201 in Jackman, take ME 6/15 east past Long Pond for approximately 8 miles. Moose River is north of the road.

  • Moxie Falls (ME)

    Moxie Falls is a stunning waterfall with one of the longest vertical drops in Maine.
