While the beginning of the byway and part of Township 10 have paved shoulders, the majority of the byway's shoulders are soft sand and gravel. Several portions, including the west side of Catherine's Mountain, have little or no shoulder treatment. As such, the byway is not ideal for bicycle or pedestrian use.
