Hanging Rock Scenic Byway
Hanging Rock State Park, NC
Named for an outcropping in the Sauratown Mountains, Hanging Rock State Park offers an outdoor getaway in a lesser known place of North Carolina. Hiking and camping are the most notable activities with nearly a dozen trails to some of the many unique places in the park.
Cascade Falls
Be sure to visit Cascade Falls which has a double drop of 200 feet in the upper cascade and 60 feet in the lower cascade. The falls were discovered by Lewis David Von Schweinitz, a Moravian mycologist and botanist. There are two trails that lead to these two falls.
Tory's Den
This cave was once used as a hiding place by loyalists to the king during the Revolutionary War. Now visitors can hike down to the Den and past the multilevel 240 foot Tory Falls.
Moore's Knob
A trail along Moore's Wall takes visitors to Moore's Knob at an elevation of 2572 feet where a panoramic view of the Sauratown Mountains spreads out below.
Among all the places to explore, visitors will find wildflowers, streams, and the beautiful forests of the Sauratown Mountains.
