Special Considerations

The highway is paved for the full length of the road and provides year-round access with excellent maintenance in the winter months.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

Fall is best for driving the highway to see the eagles gathering and Tlingit culture thriving on the natural phenomenon of the eagles and salmon.

High Season

The Kluane Bike Relay Race every June and the Alcan Snowmachine Race every January result in extra traffic for one day each.

Winter

Winter maintenance of the highway for both the American and Canadian sections is exceptional but winter conditions have occasionally required closure at the border for the Canadian portion.
