The highway has paved shoulders from two to six feet wide in a variety of conditions along the highway. Main Street in downtown Haines has sidewalks.
Recent modifications to the northern segment of the highway (25.3 mile to the border) have greatly improved safety and capacity of the road, as well as facilities for cyclists.
