Driving the Byway
Driving the Byway:
- As the Edenton-Windsor Loop is in a figure-eight route, the byway begins and ends in the same place.
- Beginning in Edenton, find the intersection of North Broad Street (N.C. 32) and West Queen Street (U.S. 17 Business).
- Follow West Queen Street (U.S. 17 Business) across Pembroke Creek.
- Turn left at the intersection of U.S. 17 and U.S. 17 Business.
- Travel for a mile until you reach the two mile Chowan River.
- Once you have crossed the river, continue traveling for 5.3 miles to the intersection with N.C. and turn left.
- Turn right after three miles onto the Sans Souci/Woodard Road (S.R. 1500).
- You'll cross N.C. 308 and continue on S.R. 1500 for nearly two more miles. At this point, automobiles may cross the Cashie River on the Sans Souci Cable Ferry.
- Across the Ferry is the community of Sans Souci and two miles of unpaved road.
- Continue on S.R. 1500 until the U.S. 13/17 intersection.
- Turn right onto U.S. 13/17.
- After 1.5 miles, continue to the right at the intersection and follow U.S. 13 Business (South Granville Street) into Windsor.
- South Granville Street becomes Granville Street at the U.S. 13 Business intersection with N.C. 308.
- Turn right onto N.C. 308 (King Street).
- Once, N.C. 308 crosses the Cashie River, N.C. 308 and U.S. 17 share the road for 1.5 miles.
- Continue on N.C. 308 by turning right off of U.S. 17.
- Travel for 11 miles along the Cashie River.
- At the stop sign, turn right and follow N.C. 45/308 across the Three Rivers bridge.
- Continue on N.C. 308 by turning left at the the light.
- Follow this road for about 7 miles until you reach Mackeys.
- Turn left onto U.S. 64 East and follow for five miles.
- Turn left onto N.C. 32.
- Follow N.C. 32 across the Albemarle Sound Bridge.
- Travel for a mile after crossing the bridge and turn left onto Soundside Road (S.R. 1114).
- Follow Soundside Road until it intersects with N.C. 32.
- Turn left onto N.C. 32.
- Cross Queen Annes Creek and enter the town of Edenton on East Church Street.
- The byway ends here.
