Located in a region already noted for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor sports which attract many tourists and vacationists each year, Kortes Reservoir is unique in having a nearly constant water level throughout the year. Immediately downstream from the dam is the Miracle Mile Recreation Area, which extends for a 6-mile stretch from the tailrace of Kortes Dam to the upstream end of Pathfinder Reservoir. This area is heavily used for recreation, fishing, and overnight camping. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department administers the area and stocks the North Platte River with fish.
