Bicycle/Pedestrian Facilities

US Highway 71 from the 71/34 intersection in Park Rapids to Highway 200 at Itasca State Park has widened paved shoulders to accommodate bicycle traffic. Bicycle and pedestrian travel is also accommodated on a number of trails that parallel the byway, including:

• The Heartland Trail, a multi-use, paved rail to trail system;
• North Country National Scenic Walking Trail, a section of Minnesota’s 390 mile foot trail;
• and Paul Bunyan Trail near Walker which has access to a 100 mile biking trail.
