The wilderness nature of the Gunflint Trail makes the area ideal for dogsledding enthusiasts. Miles of trails traverse the area, with mimimal exposure to vehicular traffic. Trails wind through forests and across frozen, pristine lakes, with no inhabitants. Trail Center Lodge hosts a check point for the famous John Beargrease Sled Dog Race each winter.
