Lincoln Highway
DeKalb, IL
Although DeKalb is named for a Revolutionary War Veteren, Baron Johann DeKalb did not settle this part of Illinois. Settled in 1837, DeKalb grew to prosperity with its agricultural background and stop on the Union Pacific Railroad. Many of DeKalb's historic districts and buildings have been preserved and restored. DeKalb is still a thriving community and home to Northern Illinois University.
While visiting DeKalb, visitors will find many cultural opportunities at their fingertips. Check out the Heritage Square Gallery where DeKalb's history is told in photographs. Or get tickets for the Stage Coach Theatre, one of the oldest community theatres in Illinois.
