The Pu'u Loa petroglyphs are the largest concentration of petroglyphs in Hawaii. There are more than 15,000 carvings in the pahoehoe lava of shapes, symbols and figures. Some of the pecked shapes are simple holes or groups of holes enclosed in a circle; others are human figures; some are interconnected to form intricate designs.
