Washington Heritage Trail
Beall Air, WV
Beall Air is one of seven homes in the Eastern Panhandle associated with the Washington family. Built in the 1700s by Thomas Beall, the First President's Great Great Nephew Lewis William Washington lived in the house from 1840 to 1871. Of note, Lewis (together with a sword and two pistols inherited from George Washington) was abducted in 1859 by an armed party and taken to Harper's Ferry, where he was held by John Brown until US Marines under Robert E. Lee freed him two days later. The house is located just off of the Trail on CR 24.
