Special Considerations

This byway is long (136 miles) and has a host of historical sights to see. Visitors may want to consider spending an extra day or two in order to experience all that the Washington Heritage Trail has to offer.

Restrictions

There are no planned seasonal closures along the byway routes. However, some closings may occur during years of flooding.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

During April and May, the trees are in blossom all along the trail. The turning colors of the fall leaves are not to be missed.

High Season

During the summer, recreational activities along the Washington Heritage Trail are at their height.

Off Season

Although the least busy season on the Washington Heritage Trail is winter, the winter is an excellent time of year for an excellent view of the landscape, topography, and mountains in the area.
