Woodward Avenue (M-1) - Automotive Heritage Trail
Length: 27.0 mi / 43.5 km
Time to Allow: One hour to visit the entire byway or three to five days to enjoy the attractions
If Broadway = Theater and Rodeo Drive = High Fashion and Jewelry, then Woodward = the Automobile. The Motor City, and in particular, Woodward Avenue, put the world on wheels. America's automobile heritage is represented along this byway in famed industrial complexes, office buildings, residential mansions, world-renowned museums, and cultural institutions.
Woodward Avenue runs through the middle of the dense urban area of Detroit. Normally this wouldn’t be the best place to find birds, but just south of the byway, along the Detroit River lies the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. This area sits along a huge migratory corridor to Canada.
Get moving on the byway where transportation is a culture -- Woodward Avenue in Metro Detroit, the birthplace of America's automobile industry. Explore and experience the place that put the world on wheels -- but do it on foot!
