Special Considerations
- Please respect the privacy and religious beliefs of the Amish. Don't take pictures of them.
- Because of the unique agriculture and culture of Amish Country, you must share the road with Amish buggies, agriculture equipment, cyclists, etc. The two lane state routes and US-62 should be traveled at a somewhat slower pace than most paved roads.
- Keep in mind that things slow down on Sunday, and while rest areas, public restrooms, and some gas stations remain open on Sunday, many other services are not available.
Restrictions
Roads are sometimes bad in the winter because of ice or snow. Every ten years or so, there may be flooding in the spring or summer, but rarely are the major highways closed.
Seasons
- Best Time to Drive
Early autumn--Harvest time.
- High Season
The harvest season. There are many produce stands and auctions. The fall foliage is stunning. People are also Christmas shopping--people shop year-round for Amish Oak and Cherry furniture.
