The Appalachian Trail crosses both SR 4 and SR 17. It provides recreational access to the extensive trail system and many of the highest peaks in the area.

Height of Land offers beautiful westerly views of hundreds of square miles of lakes, mountains, and forests. It has been considered by some to be the most spectacular overlook in northern New England.
Distance from byway: On the byway Directions: It is just a couple of miles north of Byron on SR 17.

Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge-ME (ME)
Located in Coos County New Hampshire and Oxford County Maine, Lake Umbagog refuge is a northern treasure in the National Wildlife Refuge System. The diversity of exceptional habitats provides excellent breeding and foraging areas for migratory birds, endangered species, resident wildlife, and rare plants. The refuge protects over 20,500 acres of wetland and forested upland habitat along Umbagog Lake.
Location: Located 15 miles southwest of Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway, about 4 miles south of Richardson Lake.

Location: Located east of the Byway, along SR-4.

This lake is 16,300 acres in size and has outstanding fishing and scenery.

Rangeley Historical Society (ME)
This museum covers the people and popular activities of Rangeley's past and present.

Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum (ME)
The Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum displays equipment, artifacts, photos, and historic tape recordings of people in the logging profession.

This park is reknowned for its large, private campsites, its trails, its beach and launching area as well as the access it provides to recreation.
Location: Located 6 miles off the Route 4 leg of the Byway on South Shore Drive.

This lakeside overlook provides a 180 degree view of Rangeley Lake, Saddleback Mountain, and Mooselookmeguntic Lake.
Location: Located on Route 16, 4.5 miles south of Oquossoc.
