The Energy Loop: Huntington/Eccles Canyons Scenic Byway
Burnout Canyon, UT
After a winding incline to the summit of a mountain, drivers will make their way into Sanpete County. From an overlook, visitors will see Burnout Canyon which doesn't seem burned out at all. Forests of aspen and pine cascade down and stop at the bottom of the canyon where a mountain stream with grassy banks meanders next to The Energy Loop: Huntington/Eccles Canyons Scenic Byway. As if to copy the stream, the road through Burnout Canyon also begins to wind.
Burnout Canyon is the site of cooperative efforts between government agencies and private industry to restore natural vegetation after the installation of a natural-gas pipeline buried in the draw. Now travelers would never be able to guess there is a pipeline that travels under the stream and road below. Since this pipeline was created with the forest health in mind as well as the for the benefit of people, the pipeline was allowed in National Forest territory.
