Nine Mile Canyon Backway
Cottonwood Canyon Sites, UT

On a ridge near the entrance to this canyon is the remains of a Fremont village. Walk up the hillside to the west and see the rocks that outline where several pit houses once stood. Other structures were built around the large boulders. To the north across the canyon is a long greenish ledge. With binoculars several structures can be seen lining it.

Not far along the road is the outstanding "hunting scene" petroglyph panel that is the subject of one of the murals in the Price Prehistoric Museum. You might need to ford a small stream to reach it, however, as the road crosses several washes. The panel itself is immediately next to the road, about 10 feet off the ground. Its location may be marked by a cairn of rocks directly underneath it.

You can find other, minor, petroglyphs on the rock faces along the canyon if you look closely.
