The byway is appropriate for bicyclists, and pedestrians, but caution should be used on the non-surface shoulder sections. The beauty, low traffic volume, and good road conditions attract riders back year after year.

In addition to driving, cycling, or walking, the byway is a favorite travel route for motorcyclists traveling to Sturgis, South Dakota and has hosted the BRAN (Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska) for many years.
