Loup Rivers Scenic Byway
Dannebrog, NE
From its name to the many festivals held throughout the year, Dannebrog can readily be seen as the Danish Capital of Nebraska. Dannebrog gets its name from the Danish flag, and the influence does not end there. This small town is close to Grand Island and many recreational areas, such as Sherman Lake. Festivals and culture pervade the feel of the town. Grundlovs Fest, held each June, commemorates the anniversary of the signing of Denmark's Free Constitution. Food, music, and parades accompany this celebration. The annual Old-fashioned Danish Christmas celebration is held each year, with artists, crafts, food, carolers, music, and an Advent candlelight service. This small town has a charm that is an appealing look at history, heritage, and hospitality.
