Logan Canyon Scenic Byway
Temple Fork Road, UT
The road through Temple Fork buzzed with activity in the 1870s and 1880s when a logging camp and sawmill operated from within this hollow. Most of the timber milled in Temple Fork was used to construct the LDS Temple in downtown Logan. The one-mile Temple Fork Sawmill Trail leads to the original mill site where remnants of this historic era can still be found.
The Temple Fork Road also leads to the final resting place of "Old Ephraim," the last and said-to-be "largest" grizzly bear killed in this region. A monument stands at this location depicting the actual height of the grizzly.
Many visitors come to Temple Fork for various reasons. Some enjoy the Great Western Trail. In the fall, hunters gather here to set up camp. In the winter, the road is usually covered in snow and a perfect trail for cross-country skiers. And during just about any time of year, Temple Fork is the best place in the canyon for star gazing.
