Special Considerations

Gas is only available in Ogden and near Huntsville along the byway. The road winding through the canyon is very narrow and is replete with tight curves throughout. The roads can by slick and icy during rainstorms and in the winter months.

Restrictions

There are occasional road closures through the canyon due to weather and snow tires or chains are recommended during winter months. The section of Highway 39 east of Huntsville is closed during the winter.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

During the winter snow blankets the trees and ice lines the rivers and streams. Spring brings new leaves and wild flowers. The sun warms the air in the summer, and fall carouses in colorful array on the byway.

High Season

Summer and Winter.
