Big Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Byway
Visitor Services
Visitors to this byway will find picnic areas, campgrounds, and two ski resorts: Brighton and Solitude. Solitude is open year round while Brighton is only open for winter skiing and snowboarding. Lodging and dinning is available at both resorts.
Additionally, this byway offers opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, backpacking, rock climbing, and sightseeing.
All services are available in the nearby cities of Sandy, Union, and Murray.

Special Considerations
On days with extreme winter weather, UDOT and the Utah Highway Patrol will enforce vehicle restrictions limiting vehicles to those with tire chains or four-wheel-drive.
Steep grades are challenging to RV’s and larger vehicles.
Restrictions
Occasionally during winter, the byway is temporarily closed due to excessive snowfall.

During the fall, the canyon becomes vibrant with color as the trees prepare for winter.

During the summer months and during ski season, the byway experiences a great deal of recreational traffic.

Road closures occur occasionally due to weather conditions or avalanche control operations.
