Generally, biking along this route is quite safe. Shoulders are wide enough to accommodate both cars and cyclists. There are no sidewalks along the byway. Be aware that there are many sharp corners and sections with steep grades.

Hiking and biking trails are present in Big Cottonwood Canyon, such as the Wasatch Crest Trail, Cardiff Fork, and Twin Lakes.
