Mirror Lake Scenic Byway - UT Section
Bear River City, UT

This town has the most infamous past of all the local railroad towns. First settled by tie hacks in 1867, Bear Town was soon overtaken by an extremely rowdy bunch of railroad workers. Two factions were constantly at odds and in 1868, a big riot broke out. Several people were hanged and many jailed. Federal troops had to be brought in to restore order. This town was occupied for only a few months, but its notoriety lives on.
