Special Considerations
Cairns (stacks of flat rocks) are used to mark trails in canyon country, especially over slickrock areas. They are normally placed at intervals along or at places where the trail makes a turn.
This hike is in desert country and despite the nearness of shade and water, can be fiercely hot in summer due to the enclosing canyon walls and rocks. Hikers are reminded to bring (and drink) at least one quart of water per hour of hiking, wear sunscreen, sunglasses, headgear and loose, light clothes, and wear strong hiking shoes.
Visitors who hike in spring and fall should take precautions against rapidly-changing weather conditions.
Restrictions
No drinkable water; poison ivy grows below a pool under Morning Glory Bridge.
