Special Considerations

The paved, gently-rising (or falling) road winds along the foot of towering redrock cliffs. The Colorado River usually parallels the road.

Keep watch out for wildlife, especially mule deer, and birds of prey which often feed on roadkill.

Free camping is allowed at many sites along the river. However, check with the visitor center in Moab before camping to ensure that your equipment and vehicle meets local standards. In particular, all campers must bring their own portable toilets, to prevent contamination of the Colorado River.

This area of Utah is desert and gets extremely hot in summer, especially with the redrock canyons trapping the heat. Bring water, sunscreen, and headgear!

Restrictions

All overnight recreationalists must bring portable toilets, and dispose of wastewater and garbage properly.
