Special Considerations

Cairns (stacks of flat rocks) are used to mark trails in canyon country, especially over slickrock areas. They are normally placed at intervals along or at places where the trail makes a turn.

This hike is in desert country and can be fiercely hot in summer due to the exposed slickrock surfaces. Hikers are reminded to bring (and drink) at least one quart of water per hour of hiking, wear sunscreen, sunglasses, headgear and loose, light clothes, and wear strong hiking shoes.

Visitors who hike in spring and fall should take precautions against rapidly-changing weather conditions. Pack raingear.

Restrictions

During late afternoons in summer this trail is largely in the shade of higher cliffs.
