Special Considerations

The Monument is more than 10,000 feet above sea level, so be prepared for high-altitude conditions. The temperature drops drastically at night, and weather can change suddenly.

Rangers say that lightning storms are not infrequent and visitors should take unusual care when visiting the Monument and viewpoints when a severe storm threatens.

Parking is limited at the Monument but is usually adequate.

Restrictions

Due to heavy snowfall this road is closed in winter.
