Special Considerations
The road passes through slickrock and ranching country, with canyons and mesas providing many changes of elevation, as well as wonderful views. There are several pullouts where pedestrian traffic may be heavy, as well as steep switchbacks and narrow tunnels. In addition, some segments of this route are crowded in peak tourist season. Vehicles may need to wait for larger vehicles to be escorted through the tunnels.
Oversized vehicles (RVs, large trailers, semis) are charged a fee to be escorted through the tunnels. Standard-size vehicles (passenger cars, motorcycles) may pass through with a National Park pass.
Restrictions
U-9 is open all year to through traffic. Oversized vehicles (RVs, large trailers, semis) are charged a fee to be escorted through the tunnels. Standard-size vehicles (passenger cars, motorcycles) may pass through with a National Park pass.
