  • Alpine

    Alpine (AZ)

    Founded during Indian hostility, Alpine was at first a fort and later a commercial hub for settlers and ranchers.

    Location:

    Alpine is located on US 191 along milepost 253.7, 21.5 miles North of Hannagan Meadow & Lodge.

  • Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

    Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest (AZ)

    The Sitgreaves National Forest was named for Captain Lorenzo Sitgreaves, a government topographical engineer who conducted the first scientific expedition across Arizona in the early 1850s.

    Location:

    In east-central Arizona.

  • Blue Vista Lookout

    Blue Vista Lookout (AZ)

    Views of thousands of square miles of the mountain peaks and desert plateaus of Central and Eastern Arizona and Western New Mexico proceed to the horizon in hues of blue, green and lavender.

    Location:

    Located on the West side of US 191 at milepost 224.8. The lookout is south of the parking area.

  • Casa Malpais Indian Ruins and Archaeological Park

    Casa Malpais Indian Ruins and Archaeological Park (AZ)

    Attributed to the Mogollon culture, the Casa Malpais ruins cover 17 acres and include unusual features such as a large Great Kiva, catacomb burials, an astronomical observatory, and solar petroglyph markers.

    The ruins can be reached from the center at 318 E Main St in Springerville, AZ.

  • Chase Creek Overlook (AZ)

    At the Chase Creek Overlook motorists have a bird's eye view of the steep mountainsides alongside a series of hairpin turns more than a 1000 feet below they've just traveled.

  • Hannagan Meadow and Lodge

    Hannagan Meadow and Lodge (AZ)

    This rustic high-mountain lodge holds an important place in the Byway's history--it was here that the road was first nicknamed the Coronado Trail in 1926. Today the lodge and its cabins offer visitors a serene escape from the hustle of daily life.

    Location:

    Hannagan Meadow and Lodge are located on the west side of US 191 at milepost 232.2, 7.4 miles North of Blue Vista Lookout.

  • Morenci Open Pit Mine

    Morenci Open Pit Mine (AZ)

    At the Morenci Mine Overlook visitors can see mountains that have been & are being moved to produce the copper we need for our nation's homes, vehicles, and businesses.

    Location:

    Three miles North of the Town of Morenci on US 191 just past the territorial era hillside cemetery at milepost 172.

  • Springerville & Eagar

    Springerville & Eagar (AZ)

    Founded in 1868 and 1870, the two towns formed the east-west crossroads of Arizona and New Mexico and were a stop on North America's first transcontinental highway.

    Directions:

    Eagar is 2 miles South of Springerville. Take US 191 in downtown Springerville & travel South to Eagar.
