Special Considerations
- Parking for visitors is limited. There can be up to an hour wait.
- Wear comfortable sportswear-type clothing in season, with sturdy walking shoes. The elevation in Frijoles Canyon is 6,000 feet and can cause breathing difficulties for some people visiting from lower elevations.
- The weather here is warm and dry, with rain in early summer months. There is a chance of snow storms from October through May.
Restrictions
A wilderness permit is required for overnight backcountry use. The permit is free but must be obtained in person at the visitor center during regular hours.
No campfires, weapons, or pets are permitted in backcountry.
