Seasons

Best Time to Drive

Most viewpoints on the north, east, and south sides can be reached from Memorial Day until snow closes the roads, usually in late October. Trails are generally open from June through October, although some at lower elevations are open longer.

High Season

Most visitors come in the summer months when clouds are least likely and the view of Mount St. Helens is the best.

Off Season

Some areas are closed in the winter, making this the least likely time for visitors.

Winter

Winter can be a beautiful time to visit Mount St. Helens. The Mount St. Helens Visitor Center and the Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center are open during the winter, except winter holidays.
