Mesa Verde National Park, CO
Mesa Verde National Park is devoted to the preservation and discovery of the life of the people who have lived in the area. The park encompasses over 700 years of history from AD 600-AD 1300. "Cliff dwellings" were built on this site and are perhaps one of the most well known sites of the park. These cliff dwellings were abandoned in the late 1200s. Archaeologists study the culture of the Ancestral Pueblos who lived in the area. Twenty-four Native American tribes trace their ancestors back to this culture. Bird watching, camping, cross-country skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, and wildlife viewing are available in the park.
