San Juan Skyway
Bicycle/Pedestrian Facilities

The San Juan Skyway is a popular and extremely challenging bicycle route. The byway crosses four mountain passes that range in elevation from 10,000 to more than 11,000 feet. Many commercial groups use the route regularly. Shoulders are always adequate, but in some places they are tight. Bikers should be particularly alert on the Ouray to Silverton segment, where the road is narrow, high, steep, and curvy; and views ahead are limited. There are also many mountain biking and hiking opportunities in the countryside along the byway.
