Cache La Poudre-North Park Scenic and Historic Byway
Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge, CO
The Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge is a place where migrating waterfowl can find safety and nest. Visitors to the refuge can use this opportunity to view and photograph the wildlife of the area. The refuge is located in an intermountain glacial basin known as North Park. Ute Indians first frequented the area, but only stayed during the summer months to hunt. Depending on which species of waterfowl are in the refuge at the time, visitors can see Wilson's phalarope, American avocet, willet, sandpipers, yellowlegs, and dowitchers. Other species of wildlife include sage grouse, golden eagles, and hawks.
