The Rawah Wilderness Area was designated as a wilderness area in 1964. This area protects the glacier carved valleys and majestic peaks of the Roosevelt National Forest. There are over 75 miles of trail that visitors can explore, and the lakes are full of fish, such as rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout. Island Lake and Crater Lake are two of the more popular lakes in the area. Wildlife viewing is another activity that travelers will enjoy in this wilderness area, and visitors may be able to spot deer, bighorn sheep, elk, or moose.
