  • Bishop Castle

    Bishop Castle (CO)

    This castle began as a one-man project by Jim Bishop in 1969. All of the work has been done with a wheelbarrow and a shovel.

  • Cripple Creek

    Cripple Creek (CO)

    The Gold Belt Tour runs through this historic mining town that was born in the gold rush of the 1890s.

  • Cuerno Verde Rest Area and Information Center (CO)

    This Rest Area and Information Center honors a Comanche chief of the 1700s. His band of warriors attacked many Spanish settlements in retaliation for his father's death.

  • El Pueblo Museum (CO)

    At this museum, visitors can learn about the interaction of several different cultures: American Indian, Mexican, and American. Fascinating artifacts, colorful murals and interesting stories bring the history of the Pueblo area to life.

    To reach the museum from I-25, take exit 98B and go west for three blocks to 324 West First Street.

  • Florissant

    Florissant (CO)

    This small town began as a stopover for travelers and traders in 1870.

    Location:

    Florissant is 38 miles west of Colorado Springs at the intersection of SH 24 and CR 1.

  • Jackson Hill Stage Stop (CO)

    From 1873 until the advent of the automobile, this stage stop offered food and lodging to weary stage-coach travelers.

    Located at Mile Marker 28.6. From Highway 96, watch for a pipe going over the highway. Take the first road after the pipe to see the old stage stop. This building is now on private property.

  • Lake Isabel (CO)

    This lake was created in 1936 when Civilian Conservation Corps workers built the Lake Isabel dam. For more than 60 years, people have enjoyed fishing and boating on this beautiful lake.

  • Lake Pueblo State Park and Visitor Center (CO)

    Lake Pueblo and the surrounding 7,000-acre State Park provide opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, water-skiing, camping, hiking, and picnicking.

  • Rio Grande National Forest (CO)

    The Forest altitude ranges from 7600-foot alpine desert to over 14,300-feet in the majestic Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. It embraces the San Luis Valley, the largest agricultural alpine valley in the world. It is also the headwaters of the Rio Grande.
